THE STORY THAT GAVE COLD CREEK ITS NAME

A SMALL CREEK WINDS QUIETLY THROUGH THE COUNTRYSIDE NEAR AIKEN, SOUTH CAROLINA— ITS WATERS COOL AND CONSTANT, A QUIET LIFELINE EVEN IN THE HEIGHT OF SUMMER. ALONG ITS SHADED BANKS, WHERE THE AIR HUMS WITH THE SONGS OF CICADAS AND THE SCENT OF LOAMY EARTH, SOMETHING ENDURING TOOK ROOT.

Almost 50 years ago, that gentle tributary of the Savannah River nourished more than native plants—it nurtured a dream. As newlyweds, the Walkers stood on that land with little more than vision and grit. They built a single greenhouse by hand, drawing strength from the same water that sustained their growing trees and shrubs. With long days, steady hearts, and deep respect for the land, they cultivated more than a business. They cultivated beauty, resilience, and community.

From that modest beginning, Cold Creek Nurseries grew into a thriving, multi-faceted enterprise. The Walkers’ expertise in Southern horticulture expanded into thoughtful landscape design, maintenance, and, eventually, a beloved retail destination with a Home and Garden Store and Market. Their legacy is woven into the landscape—evident in every carefully grown plant, every well-tended garden, and every customer who found joy and inspiration beneath their care.

In 2019, Bill and Jen Tiszai became the stewards of this special place. Drawn by the romance and soul of the nursery, they saw in it not just a business, but a calling. With reverence for what had been built, the Tiszais ushered in a new chapter—preserving the heart of Cold Creek while elevating its potential.

Their vision is rooted in the same values that founded the nursery: a love of nature, a belief in community, and the power of place. Today, Cold Creek Nurseries continues to grow as a place of peace, refuge, and connection. It is a place where people gather to learn, to dream, and to celebrate the Southern landscape.

We invite you to be part of the story, and to share in the beauty we continue to grow, together.

Welcome to Cold Creek Nurseries.
